Needing to Vent
Every morning I pull into the War Memorial parking lot long before our shuttle bus arrives. To wait for the UAMS police to come and escort me to work. I would walk but the state hospital is in between and frankly I don't want to run across any crazies in the dark. Today the cop is listening to the radio and for a moment I am comforted to hear about God. Steve Harvey was on the air talking about having faith in God and that is what we need. But that it was hard. That faith without works is dead, but that does not mean our works will get us into heaven. Our works flow out of our faith and love for God. Then everything started turning completely sour when he started claiming that if you need $16,000 you just need to ask God. He said that is only half of what a car costs. He continued on to say that is nothing to God and He can give it to you. He kept on going and I was getting so frustrated I was toning it out. I was saying in my heart you tell these people to have faith in God so that they can have the money they want. Like God is their Genie in the bottle that when they "need" something they pull him out and ask then proceed to put him neatly back into their pocket until the next "need" comes. God does answer the prayers of believers but he speaks as if the only answer to prayer is yes. As dear sweet Ms Anne would say "Honey, His no is as good as His yes". Not to mention many times our desires are not our needs. God will provide for our needs in the way He sees fit, and that does not mean that our desires are our needs. I would like to ask how does he react when God says no to his requests. And this after seeing some of Joel Osteen's presentation on Larry King Live, it is just so sad the lies people are feeding into.
