York Beaches

Monday we were able to get together with darling Brooke and beach it. We went to her house at about 9 and she had told us not to eat, because she would have food for us. So she had lots of fruit and bagels with cream cheese. Her friend Stephanie was visiting too, so she was there. She is Darren's roommate's girlfriend. She was super-sweet too. Brooke had never been to York beach so as Stephanie put it they would have an Adventure.
We got there and settled a spot and headed to the water. We were preparing to be frozen. Typically the ocean in Maine is not suitable for swimming until late July early August. By suitable I mean you can get in without having joints and limbs aching because of the freezing temparature. We did have to get a little numb because the water temperature was about 58. Brooke was the first to get completely wet, I was second and Rachel was third and last.

After a while of being wet and burning calories just standing we went up and layed out. The sun finally came out and was nice and warm on our skin. It left it's mark too. Rachel and I were burned. I was dumb to think I would not need sunscreen since we are farther away from the sun. Not true.

We swam at Long Sands then when the girls had to leave so Brooke could babysit, we headed to Short Sands which is about a 25th of the length of Long Sands and just down the road. This is where the GoldenRod is. The GoldenRod is a restaurant on the beach, that is better known for it's salt water taffy and penny candy than it's dining. It is fun to sit and watch the taffy making process. We never fail to visit GoldenRod when we are in Maine in season.
Here is the taffy being made.
The last step in the process.
Our near and dear Penny candy. So many choices to make.
